La Quinta Racquet Club

La Quinta Raquet Club (with others, built)

In 1993, prior to starting the firm, Kathryn Shaffer worked as a architectural consultant for award winning architect and planner Robert Lamb Hart (firm now known as Hart Howerton) to design the Raquet Club for a planned residential community in La Quinta, CA for The Drummond Company.  The building design with open air arcades and verandas was based on the proportions and theories depicted in Letarouilly's Edificies De Rome Moderne, a book documenting the architecture of Rome in 1840 (the basis for Spanish Colonial style).

The two story building includes an exercise room, locker room, the club grill, the pro shop, and storage facilities for an adjacent pool. She also provided consulting services with HH for the design of the Rancho San Carlos Hacienda with similar facilities, a portion of which was built in a project called the Santa Lucia Preserve.
